Night Summary & Signpost Blog

Night by Elie Wiesel talks about Elie's experience during Holocaust and what he did to survive.  Elie is 12 yrs old and Nazis propaganda starts spreading throughout Europe and things start to get extreme.  Elie and his family get sent to a ghetto which happens to be in the neighborhood they live in.  Elie and his family then get sent to a concentration camp where Elie goes through life threatening and changing experiences.

In Night there is a part in the book when there is a Aha Moment and it impacts the story.  Elie's dad is sick with dysentery and 2 doctors tell him he can't be saved and its pointless to feed him and he should get his ration of food.  Elie realizes they're right and they take his dad.

Holocaust Bystanders & Upstanders Blog

I think many people stood on the sidelines during the Holocaust because they thought it wasn't a problem at the time.  Some people stood up to the Nazis because they saw what was happening and knew it wasn't right.  Me personally I would've none nothing about the Nazis taking Jews and killing them until it probably became a major problem.  The upstanders knew what had to be done which was to help the Jews because if they didn't the Jewish religion and history would be completely wiped out.  People's families wouldn't be complete if there wasn't any upstanders during the Holocaust.

Night Summary & Free Choice

Night is by Elie Wiesel the book follows Elie Wiesel and what happened to him and his family during the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust.  Elie is a child and sees Nazis terrorizing Jews.  Then over time Elie sees the Nazi's actions get more extreme and then start taking Jews to the ghettos to live temporarily.  The ghetto is located around Elie's house so he thinks maybe they'll move somewhere better.  Eventually Jews start being taken slowly and Elie finds out that they're being liquidated.  Elie's family is then taken to a work camp.

The point of view for Night is first person because it has I, me, and mine.  And it's about the author explaining recounting what had happened to him and his family during the Holocaust.  We hear all of Elie's thoughts about whats happening and about the people he meets.

Rash Summary & Plot Blog

Rash by Pete Hautman is a novel about Bono (Bo) Marsten his mom and grandpa.  Times have changed theres no wars and everything and everyone is watched.  Bo is in high school and runs track he gets into a fight with Karlohs another person on the team and is sent to the security office.  The head of security Mr. Lipkin tells Bo he has 3 strikes against and 1 more he goes to a work camp.  Bo then bumps into Karlohs the next day and then Karlohs gets a rash on his face and blames Bo it then spirals out of control and more people get the rash.  Bo then gets detained and after a couple hours they him go.  Bo gets another strike when he attacks Karlohs at the mall for being with his girlfriend.  Bo then gets sent to a work camp in Alaska to work for Mc Donald's.

In one part of the book Bo gets into a argument with Karlohs and things get heated and he almost gets arrested.  And it leads to the rising action where Bo attacks Karlohs at the mall and gets a court date.   Which leads to the climax where Bo gets sent to a work camp.  And Bo thens hears about a football game where its the convicts vs. the guards which leads to the resolution.

Sweatshop Post

The argument in the article I read was that Nike had sweatshops all around China and Indonesia.  And that the way the workers are treated is terrible.  The workers only get paid $1.25 which is barely enough for them to live on.  The workers get attacked just for messing up.  I think this is just wrong that the workers get treated like this Nike makes more money than they really need why can't increase their workers minimum wage and stop hitting them.  What was surprising was that they make stay outside in the sun just for messing up and how much they get paid.

The argument in the poem is that the person feels like their just a lifeless machine.  The poem talked through the person's POV and explain how it feels for him or her working in a sweatshop and not living. The poem is different than the article because the poem is more vivid and use similes the article just says the workers are abused and have low pay.

Knightley & Son Summary & Genre

Knightley & Son is a book by Rohan Gavin about Alan Knightley and Darkus Knightley.  Alan has been in a coma for 4 years one day he suddenly wakes up.  And Darkus meets Uncle Bill a strange man who claims to be a friend of Alan.  Alan then gets Darkus and they try to figure out why Alan was in a coma why a book is making people crazy.

Knightley & Son's genre is fictitious mystery.  I have read books like this they're usually pretty good.  There is a few things I dislike about the book especially how long it is and how confusing some parts are.

The Westing Game Summary & Theme Also Conflict

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is about Samuel W. Westing who just died and his will is being read and he chooses 16 completely random people to inherit everything he ever owned.  The heirs have had to find out who killed Sam Westing.

The theme of The Westing House is appearances people all have disguises.  In The Westing Game a lot of the characters seem to be one way but thats not who they are.  The Westing Game's conflict is that someone killed Sam Westing and one of the heirs could be the killer.

"Do Sports Fans Go Too Far?" Blog

The article talks how sports fans riot because their favorite teams lose and how some people take the games too serious.  And that some people think its dumb to have riots and cry if their teams lose or win.  To me it just seems pointless for people to do any of these things over a game.  Why do it you'll just cause chaos if you riot and possibly be arrested is it really worth get injured or arrested over a game?

Lemon Brown Blog

Lemon Brown is short story about a homeless man named Lemon Brown who is a washed up musician.  My reaction to the story was I was confused if he was a famous musician why is homeless and living in a tenement.  This story connects to what we've learned in about homelessness because he was homeless and had really nothing except his treasure and he really can't get out of poverty.  What surprised the most was why Greg went in the tenement in the first place and how Lemon Brown was actually a musician.  Greg changed because of what he learned from Lemon and the life lessons he learned that if his dad could do something with his life he could too.

Lockdown Summary & Character Analysis

Lockdown is about Alex a teenager who becomes a bully and starts doing terrible things.  Then one day his friend is killed and Alex and his friends are framed and sent to Furnace Penitentiary.  Alex and his friends are now there for life.  Alex soon makes a plan to escape but things take a turn for the worse.

Alex is a teenager who seems to make a lot of decisions without thinking.  He comes off as bad person but he's not.  Alex is brave teenager who would help his friends through anything but he just can't really make good decisions.
