Edgar moved to Boston and eventually released a book with poems it was titled Tamerlane and Other Poems. Edgar's mother had told him Boston was a good place to start a career and live but she was wrong. Boston ended eating Edgar up and he struggled with being successful and his life in general. Edgar joined the Coast Guard as a way get earn money while in the Coast Guard Edgar wrote The Gold-Bug which was a story about treasure on an island. Poe eventually left the Coast Guard to become an officer so he could have a proper place in society and win his foster father over.
In the Biography of Edgar Allen Poe there are many memory moments throughout the biography. Edgar remembers his foster father John Allen telling him he would never amount to anything and wouldn't successful. Edgar tries hard to be successful and prove everyone who doubted him wrong but he ends up falling short. In the end Edgar got a taste of success but his addiction to alcohol cut his life short.
